Packing tips for a Disney vacation
Pack light colored clothing - preferably white colored clothes - as they will reflect the hot Florida sun. Dark clothing absorbs the heat and make you even hotter.
Bathing suits. Bring a few pairs each for the kids. Have your son wear his bathing trunks as shorts while in the parks and have your daughter where here bathing suit under her t-shirt and shorts. A lot of the parks have rides where they will get soaked or they have water refreshing areas for the kids to cool down - they can go ahead and cool off without having to change and bathing suits dry a lot faster than regular clothing. Also by wearing the bathing suits you don't have to carry them around.
Pack sensible walking shoes! As tempting as flip flops are, they do not provide proper support and comfort for hours of walking in the theme parks - your feet will be blistered in an hour. Running shoes or sports sandals are the way to go.
Sun protection. Wear a hat - preferably full, wide-brimmed hats that cover your ears and the back of your neck from the sun. Wear sunglasses as the Florida sun is blinding. Don't forget to get your kiddies a pair of sunglasses too. Sunblock is a must as a bad sunburn can really take the fun out of your vacation - don't forget sunblock for your lips too.
Water bottles - always have a few water bottles handy when at the parks to keep hydrated. Cold refreshing water is a way better thirst quencher than sugary pop - not to mention better for you. A great suggestion is to freeze water in your water bottle the night before a park visit - fill the bottle 80% with water so the water has space to expand. As you drink the melting water, refill the bottle at the many water fountains you encounter along your way. The block of ice stays frozen for hours and you will have icy, delicious water for up to 6 hours.
Gameboy or Nintendo portable game player (or a good book). If you have young kids, this tip may save your life. Waiting in lines for a ride up from up to 1 to 2 hours in the hot weather can be really hard on their limited patience and their little legs. Keep them occupied with a favorite game and they will not notice that they have been standing in line for hours - and more importantly, they will not drive you crazy with the whining and complaining that comes with waiting in line for long periods of time.
Pack a backpack for carrying your sunblock, camera, water bottles etc. around the parks - it is way more comfortable to carry around on long treks.
Packing a walkie-talkie set can really come in handy if your party splits up to go in different directions at the parks. The parks are so vast but with the walkie-talkies, you can communicate and find out where they are and make plans to hook up.
